So far, admissions in state colleges are only in the second year of BTech.
Hyderabad: Students who have completed polytechnics can get admission in IITs.
Current situation:
* Students who have completed polytechnics are getting admission (lateral entry) in the second year of B.Tech in government and private engineering colleges in the state based on the ECET rank.
* For admission to IITs, one has to secure a rank in the JEE Advanced exam.
Proposal:
* The state government and IIT Hyderabad have proposed to provide direct admission to the IITs in the second year directly to the students who have completed polytechnics.
* For this, the approval of the IIT Council is required.
Benefits:
* Even better opportunities for diploma students.
* Another way to get into the IITs.
* Opportunity to study in IITs across the country.
